The photograph directly below was taken at a wedding with a smart-phone camera. There was bad lighting so there is a yellow orange color cast in the image. The bride had hair in her face along with some blemishes on her skin. Also, the bride and groom wanted the two men standing behind them removed from the photograph. The image below this one shows the enhancements.
Our take on Smart-Phone Artificial Intelligent (AI) Apps: These apps perform editing on photographs and can make an image look good on a Smart-Phone screen, but can show imperfections when that image is made into a large print. Also, at times with a photo edited by an AI app, a person may not completely look like themselves

This bride in the image below complained she used too much eye makeup and wanted it corrected. Fixing the eyes can be difficult, but the eyes may be the most import part of a portrait. In this case, the excessive eye makeup was reduced. Also, there was lipstick that was smudged and it showed in the close up shot and was removed.
Double chins can be removed or reduced and top collars can be buttoned. The top image shows the original photo and the bottom image shows a double chin on a bride that was slightly reduced. This effect can be more or less depending on what a client wants. The edited image also shows the top collar buttoned on the groom as well as the background has been slightly softened so as to draw attention to the bride and groom.
The two photographs below illustrate how the background can be changed and softened. Also, please notice that in the edited image, the wedding dress is much more white and appealing and the water in the pond has a more pleasing color.
There is a candle obstructing the view of a priest in the image on the left. The edited image on the right shows the candle removed, the background softened so as to draw attention to the baptizing of a young boy and harsh lighting removed.
Restoring an old photo is very different than editing a modern digital photograph. This process can be described better as recreating a photograph.
The original image black & white image directly below is not much more than a black and white image out of a copy machine. It is not a modern photograph. A modern photograph is a digital file that contains color and light information of which some of that information can be easily changed. This original image was taken with a film camera and is now nothing more than a piece of heavy paper with 75 year old faded ink.
The images directly below illustrate another example where a black & white photograph has been restored and colorized. This photograph was taken with a film camera in 1960. This original photograph is in better condition than most photographs from the 1940s-1950s.
Old photos can look better... The edited photographs directly above that have been restored and colorized may not look as sharp as a modern photograph. However, these photographs look very presentable. In the 1940s - 1970s, the lenses were manual focus lenses and it could be difficult for a photographer to achieve perfect focus. And, because of this, many old photographs are not completely in focus. However, as you can see, it may be possible to obtain an image that is suitable for display.
The service provided by this company is very different than taking an old photograph to a camera shop where they input broad parameters into a scanner and a computer program with "Artificial Intelligence" directs the edits for a restored image.
